Canadian Idol Season Five Is Going To Kick
Do you feel the excitement in the air? I do. This year, our illustrious team of judges worked extremely hard to ensure the success of Canadian Idol Season Five. As we anticipate the Top 22 performances, beginning with the Top 11 male singers this evening, the Toronto boot camp auditions defined the depth and diversity of this year’s crop of musicians.
To be truly objective and honest, I cannot for the life of me pick a favorite this early in the competition. I am waiting for each singer to perform a 90 second song showcase, hoping that each has been wise and judicious in the song selection process.
In the end, it does come down to that - song choice. The song must grab the audience in a manner that is both memorable and inspiring. A song focusing on the individual style and substance of the singer is imperative and it is extremely important for each singer to recognize the diversity of his or her audience and fanbase.
Artistry is essential, but honesty and vulnerability is even more imperative. And let us not forget that this is a singing competition. It is my hope that each singer has equipped themselves with the best vocal technique possible and is listening to the guidance and suggestions of the Canadian Idol vocal coaches. They are there for a reason and their mentoring process will be crucial to their success throughout this competition.

Top 10 week one airs Tuesday, July 17 from 8:30 - 10 p.m. and Wednesday, July 18 from 7:30 - 8 p.m.
Top 10 shows move to their regular timeslot on Mondays from 9 - 10 p.m. and Tuesdays from 8:30 - 9 p.m., beginning July 23
