I like both styles.
Can you solo ok with any of these 2? Are you needed in groups?
I tried a few times to get on Ifrit last night but I faild so Ill give it some tries today.
What are the best races for these classes?

Pal/War are ALWAYS wanted in groups, since they are the best "tank" in the game. DRG are kind of wanted but most groups won't take more than one DRG for DPS normally. Soloing is limited with both : paladin due to DPS factors, DRG due to defense factors (but they do have their pet to help out).
Race? I dunno, I don't think there's a *best* race for each class since there's good/bad factors for each. Go with whatever you want to be, everything generally balances towards the end.

BTW might sound like a stupid question but...
How do you get your HP back without spells?

Choose dragoon. They require less effort, which at this point might be better for someone with your mental capacity. Paladins require far too much timing.

<--- 1/10 ^^
Healing: You have to 'med' by typing /heal or hitting the "*" button top right of your keyboard. Sitting is just to look cool when your chillin.
Paladins are ALOT different in this game Mael. They do have alot of timing needed and you cant just sit there and attack. Its kinda sad because you wont do much damage compared to the rest of your group. But you will be astonished when you see how other people go down in afew hits whereas you can take an assbeating and still be ready for more.
Dragoons are excellent damage dealers and generally a fun class to play if you dont like to be in the spotlight in a group. Generally dragoons are only used for dmg dealers in the game. Dragoons use lances, and pole arms for weapons. They get alot of the moves you saw Cid using in FF7 too.

I played a paladin in every damn game I played.
I know they require lots of timming and strategy and its not a problem.
They were very defence oriented in SB too and thats what I like. So if FFXI requires me to think more its just more fun But ill admit that I really like dragoons they are neat.
Well depend il finish reading everything about both classes first.

I could never understand why paladins were set up as the ultimate tank, i understand that they are a defensive hybrid, but how can somebody who uses spells be able to stand in melee the best? I dunno, I wanted to be main tank but the idea of being a paladin blowed to me. No finger waggling for me thanks.

Actually FFXI isn't bad at all. It is actually a very good game. It just isn't my cup of tea, which is why I choose to not play it.
I actually LOVE the aspect of the job system, as well as how well square is doing with events and such.

Well if we compare FFXI to EQ at its release or even after kurnak..FFXI is much much better.
And Paladin might have a better defence but they dont deal much dammage.
So...a warrior is still a very good choice.

Did they use Great Axes?
Plus, I have a feeling you don't play because Furor doesn't.

actually a warrior/monk combo is the 2nd best tank in the game. Warriors put out more damage, which helps with agro and the monk sub gives them more HP overall. The paladin main/war sub gives a higher amount of defense plus the heals and the skill "cover" are great utilities in battle. Heal agro can save your group's ass with a stupid ass mage using curaga during battles

btw you have to level to 30 before you can be either a Dragoon or Paladin so you're probably gonna have to level that warrior to 30... although most everquest players quit before 30

I'd Say PLD/WAR is ok, but nowadays the best thing to use for end game is PLD/NIN so i hope you have the gear/money to do it

ok .... dragoon will be hard to lv to 75 because for some reason peopel dont like them. pally tanks are ok till lv 37 or so when nin tanks take over so after 37 pally can be a pain to lv up. who ever said wars are crappy tanks well for some stuff i would say yes but we had 2 war/nin that tanked nid, jorm ,and so on so they can be good tanks and a war with a ridill is one of the best dps in the game. war/mnk is good till about lv 30 then other tanks take over. war/thf is also a good combo for huge spike damage. so basicly im saying play what you want, stick with it and learn how to play it. if you do that pretty much any job will be fine.
