E-Sampark,
a boon for public
The e-governance is transforming our lives
by bringing about a qualitative difference
as one sees Information Technology at its
practical best in our day-to-day interface
with governmental systems today. This is not
only visible in how the public is benefited
but also how governance stands reformed.
Vivek Atray, director, public relations and
tourism and one of the pioneers in bringing
IT revolution in Chandigarh, at his address
on the theme of e-governance at Rayat &
Bahra Institute of Engineering Bio-Technology,
here on Wednesday expressed these ideas. Atray,
who was here to share his experience of practically
translating IT dreams into a reality said
the whole phenomenon of e-governance as christened
and extendedin form of e-Sampark project in
Chandigarh has revolutionised the way system
functions.
Atray said the success of e-governance in
Chandigarh can be easily gauged from the fact
that starting from only three centres in 2004,
e-Sampark centres have increased to nine,
with 36 counters in city which are providing
17 government to consumer and three business
to consumer services. Taking a peep at the
transactions managed by e-Sampark centres
since 2004, transactions worth a whopping
Rs 618 crore, disposing off approximately
21.38 lakh cases shows the long way e-Sampark
has come in the city.
Talking about the growth in terms of transactions
which mounted to Rs 354 crore in the year
ending March 2007 as compared to the Rs 239
crore during the corresponding period in 2005-06
reflects an increase of 275% which speaks
volumes of the success of e-Sampark with still
a long way to go, said Atray.
