SAN ANGELO, Texas (CNN) -- Frightened and perhaps pregnant for the second time in a year, the 16-year-old mother whispered into a borrowed cell phone, defying everything she'd been taught by making contact with the outside world.

She said she was being held against her will at the YFZ Ranch near Eldorado, Texas. She said she'd been beaten by the man, more than three times her age, who had taken her as his seventh wife. Now, her parents were talking about sending her younger sister, 15, to the ranch as well.
She said she wanted out.
The first call came through to a Department of Family and Protective Services hot line at 11:32 p.m. March 29. A second call came the following day.
This time, the caller said, crying, that she wanted to take it all back. She said she was "happy and fine" and didn't want to get in trouble. Watch more about her story �
The dramatic scenario is detailed in a court affidavit that gave police and social workers the legal authority to raid a 1,900-acre polygamist compound built in West Texas by the reclusive Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. In all, 555 women and children have been taken from from the compound since Thursday; 416 children are in the temporary custody of the state, and 139 women, almost all of them mothers, have left voluntarily.
On Wednesday, authorities said they believe the teenager, whom they called "Sarah," was among them.
"We believe, but can't confirm, that she is with us and that she's simply too frightened to come forward," said Marleigh Meisner, a spokesoman for Child Protective Services.
"This is a situation where the family is an entire community and the dynamics involved in that make it very difficult for her to trust us," she added.

Curiously, Dale Barlow, 50, the man identified in an arrest warrant as the tipster's husband, may have been living in another state at the time of the raid, according to published reports.
Sandra Guerra-Cantu, a doctor with the Texas Department of State Health Services, said most of the children are in good health, though a dozen have chicken pox.
Police continue to search the ranch and serve search warrants, the Texas Department of Public Safety said Wednesday. FBI agents are also on the compound, the DPS said. Residents of the ranch who are not possible suspects are being allowed to leave but cannot come back.
Child welfare workers allege in the document that the YFZ was rife with child neglect and sexual abuse. As soon as they reach puberty, girls are "spiritually" married to much older men, and boys are groomed to perpetuate the cycle, the affidavit says.
During a search of the ranch, according to the affidavit, social workers saw several pregnant minors and others with infants. It is all part of what the document calls "a widespread pattern and practice."
Texas law forbids polygamy and any marriage involving a girl under the age of 16.
Attorneys for the FLDS are challenging the search, saying that police and social workers overstepped their authority. A hearing is scheduled in San Angelo this afternoon.
In her calls, the girl said she had looked for ways to escape. But she was told that outside the compound's gates lies an evil world in which she would be forced to cut her hair, wear makeup and have sex with many men. She thought about faking an illness, but under that plan, she couldn't bring her baby along, the affidavit stated.
She said her husband would "beat and hurt" her when he got angry, hitting her in the chest and choking her while other wives held her baby. Once, he broke her ribs, she said. The most recent beating came on Easter Sunday, she said.
Authorities are having difficulty learning the identities and parentage of many of the 416 children in their custody; some were unwilling or unable to provide the names of their biological parents, or they identified multiple mothers, according to the affidavit.
Although authorities described ranch residents as cooperative during the search, two men have been arrested.
Leroy Johnson Steed, 40, was arrested Monday on charges of felony tampering with evidence. Earlier, Levi Barlow Jeffs, 19, was arrested on misdemeanor charges of interfering with the duties of a public servant

Fish...I have been following this also..to much my dismay this was not posted on our forum for whatever reason...but I felt it was too important not too post! IMHO! This reminds me of the davidians...It is well known that the mormon religion is notorious for polygamy...but there comes a time when the line is crossed and not tolerated! This idiot also has compounds in Mexico and Utah that I am aware of! The philosphy while purist (eating whole foods) and working off the land much as the quakers do there seems to have been a blurred line that was not acknowledged...which in OUR SOCITIIES term boils down too. Pedophiles, rapists, not being able to care for your own... ad the amount of monetary resources have to go towards placing these traumatized children into homes! And the therpy they will all need to get over their experience.

Dark, thanks for posting this. I anxiously wait God's (BP member) reply! Back to subject: It is very apparent how influenced people can be by others. I have friends and work with Morman people who basically are sickened by this incident. One of my co-workers brought up the fact that this church was actually outside of the Morman "organization." Huh? Ok, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is an organization. However, the religion remains the same.
The fact is that some if not all those girls were abused and raped. This is against the law regardless of seperation of religion and state.

Good point Fish! In my anger I forgot too mention that these "sects" have been excommunicated by the church! And true all the women have been exposed to sex at an age when technically they should be playing with Barbies and the young men brought up in the compound were also exposed to this by having it instilled that this was in fact gods will? I heard that the children taken did not even know how to use crayons? AND THE ONLY "PLAY" TIME THEY HAD WAS ACTUALLY CARING FOR THEIR INFANT SIBS... TRULY REPULSIVE THAT WE FOCUS SO MUCH OF OUR TIME..ON OTHER issues w/out considering that there are many compounds/cult like this occuring in our country and we are truly ignorant to the fact!
