Advertising experts disagree about whether Miley Cyrus hurt her “ability to influence brand affinity” by appearing in Vanity Fair magazine in poses that critics have described as suggestive and scandalous. David Weisswasser, head of Platinum Rye, which provides celebrity talent for top ad agencies, told Advertising Age that he though the photos were “rather tame” and were intended to help Cyrus make the transition for “pop tart” to artist. However, Jason Michelotti of Davie Brown Talent in Portland, OR, said that while her fans probably think the Vanity Fair spread is no big deal, “their parents think it’s a big deal, and that’s why advertisers are likely to be concerned.” And Mike Sitrick, whose PR firm advised Paris Hilton after she was jailed, told AdAge that he would advise Cyrus’s parents to “go on the attack. … I mean, she exposed no more of her body than would be seen in most junior prom dresses or even bathing suits.”
I am a parent and my daughter LOVES Miley Cyrus. I allow her to watch Miley because what she represents on and off the camera. A wholesome image, with Christian beliefs and bold about her stance. I want to say that I was a little ….not shocked, but disappointed, when I saw what all the hoopla was all about. I looked at the picture myself and came to the conclusion that, sure, she really is not showing more than her bare back, but what disturbed me was the IMAGE that it portrayed. To me it looked like a Lolita image with the red lipstick, messed up hair and bed sheet wrapped around her. Nobody can’t deny that there are sexual connotations to that picture. Ms. Anne L., knew EXACTLY what she was doing when she took those pictures. Miley, you need to realize that your wholesome image irks some and nothing gives them more pleasure than to bring you down by making sure you make more mistakes like these. We are still behind you as your fans and know that everyone makes mistakes.
