Fresh on the internet is the first release of Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End, courtesy of mVs. Not bothering with any poor camera audio, they have produced this quality telesync, not even a full day after the theater release last night. As the third installment in pirates series, Elizabeth, Will, and Captain Barbossa set off to rescue Captain Jack Sparrow and battle the dark alliance. The film is again directed by Gore Verbinsky and stars a slew of famous faces including: Johnny Depp, Geoffrey Rush, Orlando Bloom, Keira Knightley, Chow Yun-Fat, and more. One of the most anticipated films of this summer, it currently has ratings of 8.6 on IMDb and ratings of 49%/81% on RottenTomatoes. The adventure at sea continues in this nearly three-hour epic film. This release comes in on a great two-cds. Video runs with a resolution of 576×304. Picture quality is fairly good for a camera source. Colors may be a tad washed, but suprisingly clear and little blur or pixellation. The direct audio on this comes in at an average 162 kbps MP3 and sounds very nice; no gripes here. Not many gripes at all for such a fast and watchable release. Another job well done to mVs. Check the many screenshots below, and enjoy.
In the follow-up to the 2006 record-breaking smash hit ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest,’ we find our heroes Will Turner (Orlando Bloom), Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley) allied with Captain Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush) in a desperate quest to free Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) from his mind-bending trap in Davy Jones’ Locker while the terrifying ghost ship, the Flying Dutchman and Davy Jones, under the control of the East India Trading Company, wreaks havoc across The Seven Seas. Navigating through treachery, betrayal and wild waters, they must forge their way to exotic Singapore and confront the cunning Chinese pirate Sao Feng (Chow Yun-Fat). Now headed beyond the very ends of the earth, each must ultimately choose a side in a final, titanic battle as not only their lives and fortunes, but the entire future of the freedom-loving Pirate Way, hangs in the balance.

A somewhat good release of Perfect Stranger is finally out, thanks to 20th. Adding another telesync to their release history is this thriller starring Halle Berry and Bruce Willis. A decent film, though not what many were expecting from such great actors. The film, less than two weeks in theaters, currently holds an overall rating of 4.8 on IMDb and ratings of 11%/27% on RottenTomatoes. This release comes in on only one-cd and the film has a runtime of a little over one-hundred minutes. Video runs with a resolution of 640×272. Picture quality is pretty good on this. Colors and brightness are acceptable and flicker is minimal. Audio comes in at an average 128 kbps MP3 VBR. Sound quality is direct, audible, and good as well. A decent telesync here for those who are interested in this thriller. Check the screenshots below, and enjoy.
Revolution Studios’ sexy thriller Perfect Stranger asks the question: how far would you go to keep a secret? When investigative reporter Rowena Price (Halle Berry) learns that her friend’s murder might be connected to powerful ad executive Harrison Hill (Bruce Willis), she goes undercover with the help of her associate, Miles Hailey (Giovanni Ribisi). Posing as Katherine, a temp at Hill’s agency, and Veronica, a girl Hill flirts with online, Rowena surrounds her prey from all sides, only to discover that she isn’t the only one changing identities. The closer Rowena gets to finding the truth, the more we see how far people will go to protect it.

Behind.The.Mask.LIMITED.DVD.SCREENER.XViD-PUKKA

Another great release from PUKKA today; a DVD screener rip of the limited release film titled Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon. This film combines the classic horror/slasher film into a comedy documentary. The result is fairly enjoyable actually; it currently holds an overall rating of 7.7 on IMDb and ratings of 80%/83% on RottenTomatoes. Starting off with comedy and ending in killings, this film is highly suggested for fans of the classic slasher films. This release comes in on only one-cd with a runtime of approximately one and a half hours. The video runs with a resolution of 592×320 and a bitrate of approximately 930 kbps. Picture quality is great on this release. Audio is average MP3 and sounds good. A solid release from PUKKA once again that will hold until the DVD is close to release. Check the screenshots below, and enjoy.
Though the slasher film parody has become well-trodden ground since the birth of the teenage body count genre in the late 1970s, screenwriters Scott Glosserman and David J. Stieve-who are clearly fans of the genre-find some new blood to let out of the serial killer comedy in BEHIND THE MASK: THE RISE OF LESLIE VERNON. The film adds elements of THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT (1999) and HENRY: PORTRAIT OF A SERIAL KILLER (1986), and centers on a grad student named Taylor (Angela Goethals). Taylor is making a documentary about Leslie Vernon (Nathan Baesal), a killer-in-the-making who has a dark legend surrounding him in his small Maryland hometown. Leslie’s plan incorporates all the necessary factors to put him in the same situations that allowed his heroes Freddy Krueger, Jason Voorhees, and Michael Myers to continue killing through sequel after sequel, right down to singling out the virginal heroine who will be the one to stop him after he knocks off her promiscuous friends. Unfortunately, Taylor has a larger role in Leslie’s plans than she knows, but when she finally realizes that she can’t just sit back and film his killing spree, it may be too late to stop him.
The first half of BEHIND THE MASK is the funny part. Baesal, whose dry delivery often resembles Will Ferrell’s, makes us forget that Leslie’s planning to do some horrible things. But when the killing actually starts, the film becomes a bona fide slasher itself—and is often as good as the classics that it good-naturedly apes. Robert “Freddy Krueger” Englund lends some cred in a sharp supporting role, as does Scott Wilson, best known for his portrayal of a real killer in Richard Brooks’s IN COLD BLOOD.

The.Ex.LIMITED.R5.XViD-PUKKA

Another quality R5 release has been brought out by PUKKA. The Ex is a limited release film that stars Zach Braff, Amanda Peet, Jason Bateman, and many others. A decent comedic love story with great a great acting cast. The film currently holds an overall rating of 8.1 on IMDb with about 355 votes. It has not even been released to limited theaters in the U.S. yet, so enjoy this early release. The release comes in on only one-cd with a runtime of approximately 1 hour and 27 minutes. Video runs with a resolution of 608×336 and a bitrate of 977 kbps. Audio comes in on average MP3 format. Picture and sound quality is up to par with other one-cd releases. Great work from PUKKA once again. Check the screenshots below, and enjoy.
This rollicking and slightly absurd comedy from director Jesse Peretz (FIRST LOVE, LAST RITES) begins when Tom Reilly (Zach Braff) loses his promising chef job at a swanky New York restaurant. He is compelled to move to small-town Ohio to take a job with his father-in-law (Charles Grodin) at an advertising agency to support his wife Sofia (Amanda Peet) and newborn son. Tom’s adjustment to the rhythms and rituals of the office world is awkward at best, and complicated by the presence of an old high school flame of Sofia’s (Jason Bateman), a passive-aggressive paraplegic who schemes to get Sofia back. Meanwhile, Sofia must cope with the shock of switching roles from powerful big-city lawyer to stay-at-home suburban mom.
Young working parents will identify with the familiar conflicts presented here as the embattled Tom and frustrated Sofia struggle to make sense of their new responsibilities. Braff purveys his patented nerdy charm as a nice guy whose behavior becomes more and more manic as the rug gets continually pulled out from under him, and Peet is a lovely screen presence even as her character’s patience and enthusiasm fade in less than attractive ways. Their performances blend wry intelligence with out-and-out slapstick, and they are supported by a superb ensemble cast including Amy Poehler, Amy Adams, Paul Rudd, Donal Logue, and Mia Farrow. While some of the situations and jokes border on tasteless, it’s the smart kind of gross-out humor of a Farrelly Brothers or Jay Roach film, and the film never never loses its heart, as embodied by Braff and Peet.

Arthur.and.the.Invisibles.R5.LINE.xVID-UNiVERSAL

A new R5 has been released by UNiVERSAL. This one is of the film Arthur and the Invisibles, also known as Arthur et les Minimoys. A pretty decent family fantasy film starring Freddie Highmore and such stars as Mia Farrow, Madonna, Jimmy Fallon, Robert De Niro, Emilio Estevez, and more. A hybrid mix of animation and real life action in this one-of-a-kind film. It currently holds an overall rating of 4.9 on IMDb and ratings of 21%/58% on RottenTomatoes. This release comes in on only one-cd. Video runs with a resolution of 640×272 and a bitrate of 855 kbps. Picture quality is decent, though a little blurry and maybe a tad yellow. Audio is only direct line; sound quality is clear but a little hollow and sounds like it is coming from afar. Overall, this release is the best currently, by far. The retail DVD is set to debut in stores mid-May, so those who wait should expect the rip to appear very soon. Check the screenshots below, and enjoy.
Director Luc Besson (THE FIFTH ELEMENT) tries his hand at a children’s film with ARTHUR AND THE INVISIBLES. Based on a book, this adventure follows Arthur (Freddie Highmore) as he journeys in his own backyard to save his home from greedy land developers. When his grandfather disappears, Freddie follows a series of clues that lead him to the land of the Minimoys (aka the Invisibles). Arthur’s entrance into their realm takes the film from live-action to computer animation, changing Arthur from a 10-year-old boy into one of the Minimoys. The elf-like people he encounters are so tiny that insects dwarf them. Their warrior princess (voiced by Madonna) is ready to ascend the throne of the tiny kingdom. But first she and Arthur must join forces to outwit the evil Malthazar (voiced by David Bowie), who is intent on destroying the kindhearted race.
ARTHUR AND THE INVISIBLES boasts a cast of talented actors. Mia Farrow plays Arthur’s concerned grandmother, which is quite a change from her malevolent nanny in THE OMEN. The trio of musicians-turned-actors (Madonna, Snoop Dogg, and Bowie) are all fun in their vocal roles, and Bowie particularly shines as the villain. Other standouts include Robert De Niro, Jimmy Fallon, Harvey Keitel, and Jason Bateman, while Highmore brings the same wide-eyed wonder to the screen as he did in CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY. In fact, ARTHUR AND THE INVISIBLES shares a similar imaginative spirit with the works of Tim Burton and Roald Dahl. Though Besson’s previous films have been adults-only fare like LA FEMME NIKITA, he brings a sense of childlike awe to this project.
