It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to the New York State Department of State web site. Established in 1778, the Office of the Secretary of State is one of the oldest in New York State government. The office of Secretary of State is sometimes referred to as the “keeper of records,” however the Department of State is also, as you will see, a great deal more.

POOL SAFETY ADVISORY
When families spend time by the pool it can be fun and relaxing, however drowning is one of the leading causes of accidental deaths in our country. Each year, according to the Center for Disease Control, approximately 240 children under the age of 5 drown in swimming pools. That's why pool safety is so important. New York State law now requires pool alarms in all new pools.
