OFFICIAL FORMAT UPDATE AS OF FEBRUARY 2ND, 2004
- Modified June 25th, 2007 -

On February 2nd, 2004, Microsoft released an update to its Internet Explorer web browser that was included in the Windows Auto-Update. This update effectively DISALLOWED THE INCLUSION OF A WEBSITE'S USERNAME AND PASSWORD in the linking URL. Real the Official Microsoft Statement.

Example of Old Link: http://username:password@www.example.com/members/
Clicking on the above URL will now produce an "INVALID SYNTAX ERROR" in some versions of Internet Explorer. In other versions, you will not even be able to click on the link!

This poses a problem for visitors of this website because nearly all of the links we have usually include the username and password in the link itself.

BUT WE HAVE A SOLUTION!

If you DO NOT use Internet Explorer, you're fine, and should continue to enjoy our site.

If you DO use Internet Explorer, we have developed a very simple registry patch. It is a tiny file called "IEUserPassEnable.reg" that you download and then open. Your computer will ask you if you want to modify the registry and you must confirm. Then please restart your browser and/or reboot. Then your Internet Explorer will once again be able to accept the automatic login and password embedded in link URLs. This is 100% safe! When you've done this, please go back to our homepage and enjoy our site!

PLEASE REMEMBER TO RESTART YOUR BROWSER (OR REBOOT) AFTER THE PATCH!!!

Once you have installed the patch, go to the top of our homepage to see whether your browser once again works with embedded usernames and passwords in links.

FURTHER EXPLANATION OF THE ISSUE

As of Feb 7th, we're going back to the format of automatic login where the username and password is already embedded in each xxx password link on the homepage. This is the format that we've been using for over 6 years, and all of us would agree it is much more convenient than typing the login info by hand every time you click on a website.

What does this mean for you? If you have a Mac or if you use any browser other than Internet Explorer, like Firefox, you're completely fine. But if you're using Internet Explorer and you find that every single time you click on a password link you just get a blank page with the title SYNTAX ERROR (or the links don't work at all), then you have a problem that we can solve.

To fix this problem, simply CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD A PATCH we have developed called "IEUserPassEnable.reg". Just open the file once you've downloaded it and your Internet Explorer will once again be compatible with the format of links on our site.

SOME PROBLEMS AND ERRORS

Earlier, some of our users are reporting problems using our patch particularly with Windows 98. The error is something like "Cannot import registry file."  OUR NEW PATCH SOLVES THIS PROBLEM!

PLEASE REMEMBER TO RESTART YOUR BROWSER (OR REBOOT) AFTER THE PATCH!!!

If for some odd reason you are STILL having a problem, please use Firefox.
