Sign-in Concerns: 'Remember me' option

Print

If you select the option labeled 'Remember me on this computer,' the orkut sign-in page will remember your username and password for up to two weeks, unless you sign out of your Google Account. Selecting this option is only a good idea if you're the only person using the computer.

Please note: the cookie that remembers your Google Account information is set to expire after two weeks. When this happens, you'll have to enter your orkut username and password and check the select the 'remember me' checkbox again in order to re-enable the feature.

If you've selected this option, then your orkut profile may be open to anyone who uses the same computer after you. You should never select this option if you're using a publicly accessible computer, or if you're sharing the computer with others.

If your information is being saved on a computer and you don't want it to be, first, check if the 'remember me' option is enabled. In this case, please delete your browser's cookies. Additionally, each time you sign in to orkut, make sure the 'remember me' checkbox isn't selected.

If the problem persists, you may want to clear your browser's cache and cookies. Please note that while deleting your cookies may resolve the problem, it will also remove your saved settings for sites you've previously visited.

If the 'remember me' option isn't enabled, and you're using Internet Explorer, check if the AutoComplete feature is enabled in your browser's settings.

Here's how you can disable the Internet Explorer autocomplete feature:

  1. Go to the Tools menu at the top of your browser.
  2. Select Internet Options and click the Content tab.
  3. Within the Personal Information area, select AutoComplete.
  4. Click Clear Forms. (You can prevent IE from storing your passwords in the future by deselecting the option labeled 'User names and passwords on forms.')
  5. Click OK.

For more information on your browser's AutoComplete feature, please see your browser's help files.

Note: the cookie that remembers your account information is set to expire after two weeks. Once it expires, sign in again with your orkut username and password (and select the checkbox, if you wish).
