Since the nice folks over at
Genunix.org
the makers of Belenix (an OpenSolaris distribution) have decided to use us to distribute their torrents, and their trackers were failing under the load, I've decided to upload their torrent to torrentbox.com with us listed as an additional tracker, hopefully this will help out the folks at tuxdistro.com.
Anyway, I've been nice enough to 'donate' one of our machines (a02.ext.isohunt.com) as a seed box and one of my personal machines as well, let's hope that it helps get this distro out into the public eye.
The isoHunt hosted .torrent files are located at:
http://www.isohunt.com/torrent_details/16958933/belenix+dvd
and
http://www.isohunt.com/torrent_details/22577864/belenix+0.6.1
if you'd like to download them and give 'em a try.
A personal note to folks who think that isoHunt and the bittorrent protocol don't have significant non-infringing uses: pull your heads out, the above project is
exactly
the type of thing that we're here for. |

well I say here here! I know I'll be downloading the livecd from you guys.
And in the interest of fairness, Bit Torrent is also good in other applications too(well that's if you use the correct torrent clients to seed and what not. instead of the ones that have been slowing down the clouds of late), for example... You have a majorly loaded server or are under bandwidth constrains, by setting up seeds for what ever it is your doing will help out.
One such application is the Miro(aka democracy player), which enables you to watch video off the web by embedding an web browser&rss reader with a torrent client in a very pretty UI. just google for "Miro" and see what I mean for yourself.

Thanks for helping the Linux community ISOHUNT. With ISOHUNT's resources and your vibrant torrent community it definitely does take the load off of smaller targeted Torrent sites like TuxDistro. BitTorrent has quickly become a nice alternative to distributing the releases as it definitely takes the load off of HT/FTP servers. As Linux is distributed freely and largely community supported this also helps to ease the load on financial resources as well. We urge people to donate to their favorite distros and torrent sites such as this that aid in the distribution when they can. Thanks again.

Couldn't agree more and a project like this more than proves that point. |

No need to seed without leechers, and 1:1 sharing after downloading is nice, but not really needed(rarely and mostly if your the one of the latest leechers). Some torrents are seeded in a manner that reseed after downloading is a impossible task.Bittorrent protocol is not ment for free or opensource software(yes yes european speaking)we got nice 1000Mbs ftp servers for that at our mayor universities(at least in holland we do).And our fellows of genunix in India they got a
open binarie of belenix
much faster than bittorrent(practical)i got the distro in 10 minutes, the deleting afterwards toke longer.see they can do it on their own, there grown adult male's with nice jobs at sun. |

lol SecretSquirrel, any particular reason your reputation is listed as 666, or is it just a coincidence?
[Mod - It's no coincidence]
btw, gj, this great act just shows the greatness and community(verb) of the torrent and iso community. |

when my ISP told me to remove any and all bit-torrent clients from my computer i told them to piss off. i said i was still gonna use it for stuff they can't get mad about. specifically: Linux |

I disagree with that. Look at what was done for the Gentoo 2007.0 release, making using of the HTTP seed functionality in BitTorrent. It used the HTTP mirrors to help the download, specifically to help the folks where seeds were in short demand - helping everybody get close to their limit - and you didn't have to specifically look for a local mirror. |

I'd like to point to another good thing that Torrents are there for. Games like Final Fantasy XI and other MMO's where you have an account for the game Legitimately but have lost or damaged your install discs and need to find replacements without having to rebuy the game.
Or in the Exact Case of FFXI. You already own the entire game and all of its expansion packs for your PS2 or X-Box but want to install it on your laptop as well for when you are on the go. Saves from having to buy two full distributions of the game when you are only going to be playing one character on one account. |
